What Is A Remedy for Getting a Lawyer to Distribute the Proceeds of a Malpractice Suit?

Q. 

I have been using a long time friend as my attorney and I was awarded a large sum of money due to a malpractice suit, but since I haven¿t been able to reach my lawyer or get any of the funds I have. He was the one dispensing the money to my accounts and as of last 2007, I haven¿t been receiving any money and my bills are becoming overwhelming. What can I do if he won't return any of my phone calls?
