Preparing a Will
Richard A. Whitney

Q.

What type of lawyer does a regular will? How much does a will cost to draw up and does the forms you get at Staples count as a legal document if you have a lawyer review it after you fill it out?

A.

Any lawyer can prepare a will but if you want someone who does it more often than, say, 3 per year, then you should look for a trusts and estates specialist. The cost to prepare a will depends on the size and complexity of the person's estate. If the will simply leaves everything to one or two legatees, the cost should be around $750 to $1,500 depending on the place where the person lives. More complex wills cost more and you should get a quote of the fee before the lawyer starts worwk. I do not recommend using stationery store wills.
