Executors' Commissions in New York
Richard A. Whitney

Q.

Hello, I'm wondering, please, if there are co-executors of a will in NY State, is the commission fee split or paid twice? Also, may executors of a NY State will (a relative and a work associate of the deceased), who are also beneficiaries in the will receive the commission fee?

I've heard family members don't usually receive a fee if they're a beneficiary. Thank you.

Up to three executors can receive a full commission. They do not split one commission. I am not aware of any rule that precludes a beneficiary of an estate who is also an executor from receiving executors' commissions.
